2010-2013 Council
Mayor Kim Connell
My wife Trish and I moved to Mayerthorpe 13 plus years ago and when the time came to retire we decided to stay in Mayerthorpe. After 29 years with the R.C.M.P. and several moves it was decided to stay where we had many friends and a great community. I am past President of the Mayerthorpe Curling Club and past President of the Mayerthorpe Kinsmen Club. I was elected to Town Council in October 2004.
Councillor Dan Richard
I was born in Bonnyville Alberta on April 1st, 1957 and lived there with my family until 1965. At that time my father was transferred to Edmonton. I am the third youngest of 8 siblings. I graduated from high school with a matriculation in 1976. I then achieved an Electricians ticket in 1982. I played several sports when I was growing up and coached hockey and soccer teams well into my adult life. I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy fishing and hunting. Since I moved to Mayerthorpe in May of 1999 I have been able to do a lot of exploring in the rural areas within our area in and around Mayerthorpe.
Councillor Glen Wilcox
I retired just prior to the Municipal Election in October 2004 after a teaching career of nearly 35 years, mostly in Mayerthorpe and Sangudo. My wife, Maureen and I, have lived in Mayerthorpe for about 35 years and raised three daughters there. My past community contributions included being a founding member of the Mayerthorpe Public Library (and Chair of the board for several years), and being active in FCSS, Recreation and Interagency groups/committees.

Councillor Kate Patrick
I completed all of my schooling in Mayerthorpe and after a 15 year career with the TD Bank moved back to Mayerthorpe in 1975 when I married Norman and managed Patrick's Transport Ltd. until we sold it in 2004. Our 2 sons, Jim and Scott still reside in the Mayerthorpe area and we have one grandson Norman Jr. I have assissted many organizations with grant applications and have had many years of experience on both the board and executive of the Mayerthorpe Golf and the Mayerthorpe Curling Club. In 2005 I became the third honorary life time member in the history of the Mayerthorpe Curling Club. Besides being an active golfer and part time curler I enjoy gardening, flowers and spending time with family and friends. Mayerthorpe is a community progressively moving forward for which I say I am proud to be part of in keeping up our appearance and promoting future growth.
Councillor Dave Hutchison
I grew up near Barrhead, Alberta. I began working at the Barrhead Co-op in high school and in due course worked my way into a supervisory role. In 1991 I transferred to the Mayerthorpe Co-op where I continued to work for another 8 years. Shortly after moving to this community I met and married my wife Brenda, and we decided that Mayerthorpe would be home.
Currently I am employed as a driver with Whitecourt Transport. My present occupation allows me to meet with and ultimately gives me opportunity to discuss current issues with many business leaders in this town and in surrounding communities on a daily basis. I believe that this dialogue is an important asset that allows me insight into community concerns as well as a valuable tool that can be used to help produce solutions to the problems. As a parent and established resident I am concerned with Mayerthorpe's lack of growth. I see a need to attract new residents, thereby growing the community. I also see a need to provide more employment opportunities for our youth. I am concerned about our high taxes and aging tax base. My son is currently enrolled as a student at Mayerthorpe High School; he will graduate in less than three years. When he does graduate, he, like most of his classmates, will follow a similar path that other students before them have already taken. They will leave this community, they will seek post secondary education somewhere and then ultimately they will gain employment in another community. They will not return to Mayerthorpe to raise their own families, they will not build their own houses here and they will most likely cease to be a part of this community. Our loss will become someone else's gain.
Councillor James Mason
