2007/2008 Council

Mayor Doug McDermid

I am proud to be the Mayor for the Town of Mayerthorpe.  I was born and raised here, so it is good to give back to the Town in a position of public service.  I spent many years in health care in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Nova Scotia as a Hospital Administrator.  I am the manager of the local funeral home and also a Certified Funeral Celebrant.  Currently I am the Chair of the Country Elevator Society, whose goal is to preserve the local elevator.  I also Chair the local Youth Justice Committee.  I served in the Royal Canadian Navy and have been an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion for the past 30 years.  I am a very approachable person who wants to see Mayerthorpe remain a viable community.  I will give my all to lead the Council successfully, to stay ahead of the curve for the challenges that living today in rural Alberta presents.

Councillor Kim Connell

Kim and his wife Trish moved to Mayerthorpe 13 plus years ago and when the time came to retire we decided to stay in Mayerthorpe. After 29 years with the R.C.M.P. and several moves it was decided to stay where we had many friends and a great community. Kim is past President of the Mayerthorpe Curling Club and past President of the Mayerthorpe Kinsmen Club. Kim was elected to Town Council in October 2004.

Councillor Jack Evarts

I have lived in the Mayerthorpe area for most of my life. I have lived in Mayerthorpe now for the past 20 years, and have decided to make this my home and raise my 2 daughters here with my wife Connie. We enjoy the small town atmosphere. I have been a Councillor for the past 6 years, and have enjoyed this chance to serve our community.

Councillor Dan Richard

I was born in Bonnyville Alberta on April 1st, 1957 and lived there with my family until 1965. At that time my father was transferred to Edmonton. I am the third youngest of 8 siblings. I graduated from high school with a matriculation in 1976. I then achieved an Electricians ticket in 1982. I played several sports when I was growing up and coached hockey and soccer teams well into my adult life. I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy fishing and hunting. Since I moved to Mayerthorpe in May of 1999 I have been  able to do a lot of exploring in the rural areas within our area  in and around Mayerthorpe.

Councillor Glen Wilcox

Glen retired just prior to the Municipal Election in October 2004 after a teaching career of nearly 35 years, mostly in Mayerthorpe and Sangudo. He and his wife, Maureen, have lived in Mayerthorpe for about 35 years and raised three daughters there. His past community contributions included being a founding member of the Mayerthorpe Public Library (and Chair of the board for several years), and being active in FCSS, Recreation and Interagency groups/committees.

Councillor Kate Patrick

I completed all of my schooling in Mayerthorpe and after a 15 year career with the TD Bank moved back to Mayerthorpe in 1975 when I married Norman and helped with running Patrick's Transport Ltd. until we sold it in 2004.  Our 2 sons, Jim and Scott still reside in the Mayerthorpe area.  I have assissted many organizations in obtaining grants, been past president of the Mayerthorpe Curling Club and have had many years experience on the board and executive of the Mayerthorpe Golf Club.  In 2005 I became the third honorary life time member in the history of the Mayerthorpe Curling Club.  Besides being an active curler and golfer I enjoy serving our community on Town Council.

Councillor Patricia Oliver

I lived most of my life at Caroline, AB. I have one son,  daughter in-law and 2 grandchildren.  My work there was in the construction field which took me all over Alberta and British Columbia.  I moved to Mayerthorpe in 2003 and purchased a home that is part of Mayerthorpe history, (The United Church Manse built in 1926).  I enjoy doing volunteer work here and decided to run for Town Council so that I could be a part of a town that has the potential of being the best place to live.
