What do false teeth, a disco ball, and cigarette butts have in common?
They’re all items recovered from along Canada’s shorelines during the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup!
Register as a Site Coordinator or Cleanup Participant today for the 17th annual Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, a national conservation program of the Vancouver Aquarium that has been running since 1994, it’s a great way to show your shoreline some love.
Most shoreline litter originates from land and land-based activities, so by stepping up to ensure our litter doesn’t reach Canada’s waterways, we are all taking action in protecting our environment.
In 2009, nearly 57,000 Canadians registered to cleanup 1,568 sites across Canada. Over 160,900 kg of litter was removed from a cumulative distance of 2,500 km of shoreline, which is equivalent to the approximate driving distance from Vancouver to the Manitoba/Ontario border.
